Sea passenger traffic rises 1.5% in October

A total of 880,514 persons were transported in sea passenger traffic in October 2021, according to Statistics Finland.
In all, 445,914 passengers travelled between Finland and Sweden, 416,676 passengers travelled between Finland and Estonia and 9,112 passengers between Finland and Germany.
Compared with October 2020, the number of passengers increased nearly 1.5-fold. Compared with October 2019, the number of passengers was, however, just 57 per cent. In October 2021, a total of 4,407 passengers of foreign cruise ships arrived in Finland.
Meanwhile, the goods volume of foreign sea transport was in total 8.6 million tonnes in October 2021. Sea transport increased by three per cent from last year's October
A total of 0.9 million tonnes of containers were transported through Finnish ports in October 2021, which was 13 per cent less than in October 2020. The number of containers transported was 62,475 (109,827 -Twenty Equivalent Units- TEUs) . Exports of containers went down by 17 per cent measured in tonnes and imports went down by three per cent compared to October 2020.
A total of 261,735 transport equipment were transported in foreign sea traffic in October 2021. Most transports of transport equipment were cars belonging to passengers. In October, 151,976 cars belonging to passengers were transported. The second most transported were trucks, 62,967 and truck trailers, 43,210.
A total of 147,807 tons of transport were registered through the canal in foreign traffic. Timber was transported most in vessels in foreign traffic, in total 68,035 tonnes. The second most transported were crude minerals and cement.
