Finns make more leisure trips abroad, less domestic in Jan-Apr

About 4.8 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were made by people in Finland in January to April 2026, which is slightly fewer than in the corresponding period of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay increased somewhat and was around 1.7 million in spring 2026.
In spring (January to April), the total number of trips with overnight stay was 7.7 million, inclusive of leisure trips and business trips in Finland and abroad.
Concerning the most popular destination countries, more leisure trips were made to Estonia than in spring 2025, slightly fewer to Sweden.
The number of domestic leisure trips with free accommodation was 3.2 million, which is slightly fewer than in the previous spring.
The number of trips with paid accommodation also decreased somewhat compared to the previous spring.
The number of overnight stays at the homes of relatives and friends decreased by one fifth compared to the previous spring and the number of overnight stays at own free-time residences increased slightly.
The number of domestic business trips with overnight stay grew by around one third and the number of business trips abroad went down by one tenth compared to the previous spring.
