The popularity of shared-use electric scooters decreased in Helsinki this year compared to the previous year, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Friday.

Rental scooters were used a total of 3.3 million times during the spring and summer this year, and the number was 3.8 million rides during the stipulated period of the previous year.

The total number of shared-use electric scooters and other micromobility devices in Helsinki decreased by around 12% over the past year.

There is no single known reason for the decrease in the number of micromobility devices use.

The number of electric scooter operators has decreased from four to three.

The new licence conditions for micromobility devices that came into force in Helsinki at the start of 2026 might have been a factor behind the decrease.
