Rail passengers, freight traffic drop in Finland in Q2

A total of 20.5 million trips were made in railway passenger transport in the second quarter of 2026, which is 2 per cent less than in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.
A total of 7.1 million tonnes of goods were transported in freight transport, which is 6 per cent less than in the corresponding quarter last year.
In the second quarter 2026, a total of 20.5 million journeys were made in passenger transport, covering 1.3 billion passenger-kilometres.
The freight transport corresponded to 2.1 billion tonne-kilometres.
The number of tonne-kilometres in rail freight transport decreased by 8 per cent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
