Infant crashed under van, woman killed in level crossing mishap

A minor child was killed in an accident in the yard of a house in Perho, a municipality in Western Finland, police said in a press release on Tuesday.

The accident took place on Monday evening when a van crashed a child of 18 months under the wheels.

The critically injured child was taken to hospital by a helicopter ambulance where the child succumbed to the wounds on Tuesday.

Police, however, did not divulge details about the accident and the identity of the victim at the preliminary stage of the investigation.

They are investigating into the accident to find out the reason behind it.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed in a collision between a train and a private car at a level crossing in Loimaa, a municipality in Western Finland on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. when the private car collided with a Tampere bound train coming from Turku at the crossing.

Driver of the car, who was alone onboard, died on the spot in the accident.

Police did not disclose details about the accident and the identity of the deceased.

They, however, did not suspect any crime link to the death.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the case to find out the reason behind the accident.

Accidents at the level crossings take place in Finland very often during the recent period.

Earlier in January 2026, one person was killed a train accident at a level crossing in Turku.
