2 killed in train, road mishaps in Parikkala, Pori

A man was killed in a train accident in Parikkala, a municipality under South Karelia region on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The accident took place at about 1:25 p.m. when a train knocked down him at a level crossing.
He died on the spot.
Responding to an alarm, Rescue Service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the victim.
Police, however, did not divulge detail about the accident and the identity of the deceased.
They did not suspect crime link to the death.
The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the case to find out the reason behind the accident.
The accident disrupted vehicular movement temporarily in the area.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and another injured in a collision between two vehicles in Pori, a municipality under Satakunta region on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The accident took place at about 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Valtatie and Rauhalammintie at Noormarkku area.
One person died on the spot while another was injured. The injured person was taken to hospital.
Police did not disclose details about the accident and the identities of the victims.
Several train accidents causing human casualties took place in Finland in 2025.
Earlier on December 18, one person was killed in a train accident in Joensuu, a municipality in the Eastern part of the country.
In October, one person was killed in a train accident in Jämsä.
On September 27, a woman was killed in a train accident at a level crossing in Turku.

Frequent accidents on the level crossings in early August 2025 have raised questions about the safe vehicular movement through the crossings in Finland.
