The police issued sanctions to 85 drivers of motorised vehicles for failing to give unhindered passage to pedestrians and fined 44 other motorists for different violations of the pedestrian crossing rules.
The penalties were issued on Wednesday during an intensive monitoring at pedestrian crossings, said the National Police Board in a press release on Friday.
The control was mainly targeted at drivers of vehicles and their traffic behaviour at pedestrian crossings.
“In some, the control spots, traffic behaviour and compliance with the crossing rules mainly satisfied the law but not everywhere, and during the day, the Police had to interfere with the conduct of all road user groups,” said National Police Board Chief Superintendent Heikki Kallio.
Cyclists and drivers of light electric vehicles got 57 cautions and were written six traffic penalty fees for failures to observe the pedestrian crossing rules.
Seven pedestrians, failing to respect the red light, were imposed the traffic penalty fee while 16 pedestrians got a caution.
