Finland´s population continues to drop despite higher immigration

Finland's population decreased by 1,710 persons during January-May period of 2026, according to Statistics Finland.
The decrease in population was due to natural decline. The number of births was 6,316 lower than that of deaths.
There were 19,561 births and 25,877 deaths in the first five months of this year in the country.
The number of immigrants was 4,575 higher than that of emigrants in January-May period.
There were 16,275 immigrants and 11,700 emigrants in the first five months of the year.
Country's population was 5,651,171 at the end of May 2026.
