Finland´s population declines despite higher immigration

Finland's population decreased by 1,948 persons during January-March period, according to Statistics Finland.

The decrease in population was due to natural decline. The number of births was 4,308 lower than that of deaths in the first three months of the year.

There were 11,532 births and 15,840 deaths from January to March in 2026.

The number of immigrants, however, was 1,556 higher than that of emigrants. There were 9,412 immigrants and 7,856 emigrants in January-March period.

Country's population was 5,650,933 at the end of March.
