Finnish authorities on Friday said that the emergency warning regarding a possible drone threat in the Uusimaa region was over, said the Ministry of the Interior in a press release on Friday.
Earlier, the Interior’s rescue authorities and Finnish Defence Forces issued an emergency warning about a potential drone sighting in Uusimaa early in the morning at about 4.00 a.m.
“The authorities have now announced, through an emergency warning, that the danger has passed,” said the ministry, adding that when an emergency warning is issued, it is essential to follow the instructions of the authorities.
“This was a precautionary measure. The danger has now passed, and normal daily life can continue. The authorities will provide further information later,” said Director General for Rescue Services Kimmo Kohvakka.
Finland still faces no direct military threat, said the authority, adding that the temporary aviation restriction has been lifted.
Meanwhile, the government and the Finnish Defence Forces in a joint press conference on Friday said that there were no signs that drones have entered into Finland.
The government press conference was tight-lipped about the possible drone threat in the Uusimaa region and officials did not confirm that the possible drone attack originated from Ukraine, reported national broadcaster Yle.
Speaking at the press conference Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said that authorities did not overreact when they advised people to stay indoors and temporarily suspended air traffic.
Air Force commander Timo Herranen said that the situation this time was different compared to the previous drone threats.
"We had justified reason to believe there was a higher risk that larger drones carrying heavier explosive payloads could stray into Finland," said the Yle report, quoting Herranen as saying at the press conference.
The Defence Forces issued a warning at 3:49 a.m. asking the people in Uusimaa region inside home sensing the possibility of entering the drone into Finland in between Helsinki and Porvoo.
Air traffic at Helsinki-Vantaa airport and sea traffic in the Gulf of Finland were rerouted from 04:00 in the morning following the warning, said Defence Forces in a press release.
Ukraine has carried out extensive drone attacks on Russian territory, and individual drones have entered into Finnish airspace and territory as a part of its war against Russia, the press release added.
Meanwhile, President Alexander Stubb, who is on an official visit in Lithuania thanked the authorities for their swift action against the possible drone attack.
“I thank the Finnish authorities for their swift reaction to the drone alert this morning. Our authorities demonstrated their readiness and capacity to react,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X, adding that there is no direct military threat against Finland.
Earlier two drones that were suspected of violating Finnish airspace over Eastern Finland on May 3 were most likely Ukrainian origin, said Finnish Coast Guard.
One more Ukrainian drone was found in Finland on March 31, 2026.
The Ukrainian authorities apologised to Finland for the drones’ crashes.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said that the authorities do not completely exclude the possibility that, in addition to the unmanned aerial vehicles already found in Finland, several other such aircraft might have ended up in the country.
The Finnish Defence Forces intensified surveillance measures to ensure territorial integrity when Ukraine carried out attacks against Russian targets in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
On April 7, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and her Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha discussed the recent incidents of drones that have strayed into Finnish territory.
