Prosecutor probes firearms use by police to arrest robbery suspect in Helsinki

The authority appointed a prosecutor as the lead investigator to probe into using firearms by the police while arresting the suspect after a robbery at Herttoniemi in Helsinki early Saturday night, said police in a press release.

Incident took place just after mid-night when an alleged bandit entered into a service station at Laivalahdenkatu area and robbed the station at knife point.

Responding to an alarm, police rushed to the spot and after a chase arrested the alleged robber, who was trying to flee away on foot.

During the chase, a police officer fired two gunshots.

No one, however, was injured in the incident.

The Helsinki Police are conducting a preliminary investigation into the case as aggravated robbery.
