NBI probes into financing PKK in Finland

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) investigated the involvement of four persons in supporting the activities of the EU-listed terrorist organisation Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its fundraising in Finland, said an official press release.

The NBI completed the criminal investigation, which started in winter 2025 and referred the case to the Office of the Prosecutor General for consideration of charges.

On the basis of the investigation, there was reason to suspect that several persons were regularly involved in collecting funds in the name of the PKK to support its activities.

Two persons are also suspected of having participated in the activities of a terrorist group.

The police suspect that they had a controlling role in organising the activity in the PKK’s name.

According to the investigation, the suspects travelled across Finland since November 2024 visiting the companies of persons with a foreign background.

The police believe that the purpose of these visits was to collect funds to support the PKK’s activities.

The suspects, however, denied committing the offence.

“We investigated, among other things, the scope of the organisation’s activities. We also cooperated with the authorities of different countries,” said Mikko Laaksonen, Head of Investigation and Senior Detective Superintendent of the NBI.
