Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Tuesday apologised for her partying photos and videos taken by her friends at her official residence Kesäranta in July and published in social media.

Terming the photos and videos as inappropriate, the Premier also admitted that such photos and videos should not have been taken.

"From my point of view the photo is not appropriate, I apologise for that. Such photo shouldn't have been taken," she told journalists after her speech at the Annual Meeting of Heads of Mission in Helsinki.

She said that the photos were taken at her official residence after the Ruisrock music festival in July, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The Prime Minister, however, said that the photos were taken during a private event at the residence and there has been no threat to the national security as a result of her social activities.

"We were using the sauna facilities and the garden area, but we did not spend time inside the Kesäranta house, although the downstairs guest toilets were in use," said the Yle report, quoting the Prime Minister as saying.

Earlier last week, the Prime Minister took a drug test against the backdrop of accusations following the leakage of video footage in social media and no trace of drug was found in the test.

Marin faced strong criticism from political parties following leakage of her partying video footage in social media.
