The five-party alliance government on Wednesday survived a no-confidence motion brought against it in parliament by some opposition parties over its policies on economy and employment.

The government won the motion by 106 votes to 75 with 18 lawmakers remaining absent.

The opposition parties Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) together with Suomen Kristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party) and Liike Nyt (Movement Now) tabled the motion.

The opposition parties, referring to the last month’s budget negations, brought the motion holding the government responsible for its “inability” to take decision to make the economy stable and increasing employment

The ruling parties, however, in a debate on the motion on Tuesday defended its economic policies to get recovery from the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), however, did not participate in the motion as it tabled another no-confidence motion separately.
