The Ostrobothnia District Court on Tuesday sentenced two persons to separate terms of imprisonment and fined 276,000 euros and other compensations for hacking into Nordea Bank's computer system and stealing million euros from the bank, reported the local media.
The court awarded the punishment to the men as various allegations including aggravated data hacking and aggravated payment fraud brought against them were proved beyond doubt.
The mastermind of the hacking incident, a 28-year-old man, was sentenced to imprisonment for three years and two months while another convict, a 27-year-old man, was sentenced to two years in jail.
Both the convicts were also ordered to pay about 276,000 euros in fine to Nordea bank and additional 70,000 euro for legal costs, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
The court, however, acquitted another defendant, a worker of the bank, as allegations brought against him were not proven beyond reasonable doubt, according to the court.
The hacking took place in summer 2019 in Vaasa and the hackers stole more than 670,000 euros from an account of a customer of the bank.
The convicts used a keystroke logger to gain access to bank employee login and password details and using the codes and a stolen computer, the men then gained access to the bank’s customer details, the Yle report quoted the prosecutor as stating.
