SDP still most popular, though support wanes

Support for the SuomenSosialidemokraattinenPuolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP), which leads the five-party coalition government, has decreased to 21.2 per cent from that in the previous month, according to the results of a poll commissioned by the national broadcaster Yle.
The poll carried out by Taloustutkimus and published on Monday showed that the support for SDP decreased by 0.6 per cent month on month and it still remains top on the popularity list.
The poll said the main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) remained second on the popularity list with 19.5 per cent support, followed by another opposition, the KansallinenKokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) with 16.6 per cent support.
The support for Perussuomalaiset increased by 0.5 per cent, while the popularity of Kokoomus decreased by 1.1 per cent from that in the previous month.
Another component of the government, SuomenKeskusta (Centre Party of Finland) which came up fourth was followed by another ruling ally, VihreäLiitto (Green League).
The second largest component of the government Keskusta got 12.4 per cent support as the support for the party went up by 0.9 percentage points.
The support for VihreäLiitto decreased by 0.1 per cent from the previous month to 10.8 per cent.
Two other components of the ruling coalition – the Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) and the Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) secured the sixth and the seventh places on the popularity list with 7.7 per cent and 4.3 per cent supports respectively, while the opposition SuomenKristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party) secured the eighth place with 4.0 per cent support.
The survey was conducted by interviewing 2,457 people from 12 October to 3 November and the margin of error was +/- two percentage points, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
