The opposition Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) on Friday held Social Affairs and Health Minister Krista Kiuru responsible for disseminating misleading information on the use of masks during the coronavirus pandemic and decided to bring a no-confidence motion in parliament against her, reports the local media.
Kokoomus parliamentary group Chairman Kai Mykkänen and lawmaker Mia Laiho raised the issue of no-confidence motion, with NCP Chief Petteri Orpo endorsing it.
“The corona crisis is likely to continue for a long time. Parliament and Finns should be able to trust the minister responsible for managing the crisis. But the situation is e that, said party lawmakers Mia Laiho and Kai Mykkanen. They also suggested that Minister Kiuru does not enjoy the confidence of parliament. I support the proposal,” Orpo Twitted in Finnish.
Mykkänen said the social affairs and health ministry had issued statements on the use of masks as per the instructions of the minister that did not reflect the best available scientific evidence, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
He accused the minister of not recommending the use of masks.
The vote on the no-confidence motion will be held in parliament on Wednesday, said the Yle report.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sanna Marin said her government has full confidence on Minister Kiuru regarding coping properly with the difficult coronavirus situation.
“The government relied on the latest advice from health authorities in fighting the epidemic. This has also been the case for the mask recommendation. Kiuru has performed her duties in an exceptionally difficult situation,” Marin wrote in her Twitter post on Friday.
