An F-18 Hornet jet of the Finnish Air Force on Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing at an airport in Oulunsalo in northern Ostrobothnia due to a technical glitch, reported the national broadcaster Yle quoting an official of fire and rescue department.

The landing took place at about 12.30pm, which also prompted the authorities concerned to issue an aviation accident alert at the local airfield.

The landing, however, occurred safely without any unwanted incident, said the rescue department official, adding that his unit worked with the Defence Forces and the Oulunsalo airfield.

Earlier, on Saturday, another hornet jet experienced a technical glitch in Rovaniemi.

Rovaniemi airport authorities issued an aviation accident alert when the Hornet experienced a suspected control unit malfunction, said the Yle report, adding that the jet also landed safely.

Colonel Jukka-Pekka Keränen, leader of the Air Force’s Ruska 20 main war drills told the news agency STT on Saturday that the aircraft in Saturday’s incident did not have any defect that would affect its ability to fly, the Yle report added.
