The Norwegian government has decided to open the country’s borders with most of the Nordic countries including Finland from Monday, reported the national broadcaster Yle on Sunday, quoting Norwegian government sources.

From Monday, people from Finland and other Nordic countries, excepting Sweden travelling to Norway will not be required to go for quarantine upon their arrival there.

The Norwegian authorities, however, decided not to ease the border control for Sweden due to the current cononavirus situation in that country.

The Norwegian government observed that the coronavirus situation in Finland, Denmark, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland is under control so that there is no necessity to impose travel restrictions for these countries anymore.

Earlier, on 11 June, the Finnish government announced that it would ease border controls with Nordic and Baltic countries, excepting Sweden from 15 June.

Border traffic with the Nordic countries Norway, Denmark, and Iceland and three Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania resumes on Monday, while Sweden and the rest of the Schengen countries will remain exempted from the move.

On the following day, 12 June 12, Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her Norwegian counterpart Erna Solberg held a telephone conversation and discussed various issues including cross-border traffic.
