Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her Norwegian counterpart Erna Solberg on Friday held a telephone conversation and discussed various issues including cross-border traffic, said a government press release.

They also discussed on the COVID-19 situation and Nordic cooperation.

Marin told Solberg about the Government's new policy regarding the cross-border traffic and the strategy of her country to manage the COVID-19 situation.

The government on Thursday announced that it would ease border controls with Nordic and Baltic countries, excepting Sweden from Monday.

Border traffic with the Nordic countries Norway, Denmark, and Iceland and three Baltic countries – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania – will resume on Monday while Sweden and the rest of the Schengen countries will be exempted from the easing.

Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Thursday said Finland would appreciate reciprocity in these actions.

He said the Baltic countries have already opened their borders to Finns and now expecting decisions from Norway and Denmark soon, but Finland has already done its part now.
