Former President Martti Ahtisaari and his spouse Eeva Ahtisaari, who had been diagnosed with coronavirus infection last month are recovering gradually, said a press release issued by the Office of the President on Tuesday.

Both of them have been tested again and found coronavirus negative.

The 82-year-old former president was infected by coronavirus on March 24 while the 82-year-old former first lady was infected on March 21.

Eeva attended a concert marking the International Women’s Day in Helsinki on March 8, where one participant had tested positive for coronavirus.

Ahtisaari, also a Nobel Laureate, was the 10th President of the country and served from 1994 to 2000. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his contribution to international conflict resolution.

He is also the founder of a non-profit organisation, Crisis Management Initiative, which works for mediation and conflict resolution.
