Minister urges not to buy, store excessive foods

Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen said that there is no disruption in the supply of daily consumer goods and urged the people not to buy or store excessive foods.

“People are understandably concerned about the coronavirus. However, there is no need to buy and store excessive amounts of food,” said the Minister in her recent blog post.

Haatainen has discussed the supply of daily consumer goods with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the senior public officials of the National Emergency Supply Agency, said an official press release.

Meanwhile, scarcity of foods and essential goods is prevailing in the groceries and supper shops in the country.

Daily Finland correspondents visited several grocery stores in Helsinki and Rovaniemi and found most of the foods items were sold out. Shortage of sanitary accessories and hand sanitizer also created in the market following the coronavirus outbreak situation.

Sellers at some medicine shops said that they do not have any more hand sanitizer as it wa sold out.

They also said that it will take few days to get the product.

The National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) is an organisation working under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

It is tasked with planning and measures related to developing and maintaining security of supply.
