NEFAB discuss air space cooperation in Helsinki

Representatives of Finland's, Norway's, Estonia's and Latvia's civil and military aviation on Tuesday met in Helsinki to discuss cooperation on airspace management in their regions.

It was a meeting of the Council of the North European Functional Airspace Block (NEFAB), which was chaired by Finland. The chairmanship rotates on an annual basis, said a government press release.

NEFAB was established in 2012 by means of a treaty between Finland, Norway, Estonia and Latvia. It is based on EU regulation aimed at harmonising the European airspace (Single European Sky, SES). The Single European Sky has been one of the key themes Finland has sought to promote during its Presidency of the Council of the EU. Cooperation on airspace management and air navigation services is carried out in the blocks.

The meeting agenda included the implementation and future plans of the EU obligatory performance plans relating to the cost-effectiveness of airspace and air navigation, the development of the Single European Sky and the bilateral cooperation between Estonia and Finland on air navigation services.
