The German government has yet to find a solution to stabilize the finances of its largest importer of Russian gas, Uniper, which has been hit hard by the reduction in gas supplies from the east and requested a bail-out, reported dpa.

A spokesperson for German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said on Monday that a solution was being sought, although she did not comment on the possible headwinds from Finland.

The Finnish government has said that Uniper's majority shareholder Fortum - which itself is majority owned by the Finnish government - might not participate in any rescue measures for the German energy company.

Finnish Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen said she did not see how Fortnum could invest more in Uniper at this time, according to news agency STT.

Uniper applied to the German government for a bail-out on Friday, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Habeck had promised support to the company.

Habeck said on the weekend that he wanted to hold Uniper's owners to account, telling German radio: "After all, it belongs to someone who is solvent and who can provide support."
