Industrial output drops in May M-on-M but rises Y-on-Y

Seasonally adjusted industrial output decreased by 1.4 per cent in May from the month before, according to Statistics Finland.

Industrial output adjusted for working days, however, went up by 0.6 per cent compared to May 2025.

Industrial output grew in May only in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply from the month before but fell in nearly all examined main industries in May from the previous month

Output in manufacturing grew by 0.7 per cent in May 2026 from one year earlier but decreased by 0.8 per cent from the month before.

The fall from the previous month was strongest in the chemical industry, where output was 9.1 per cent lower than in April.

Output decreased by 4.6 per cent in mining and quarrying and by 3.8 per cent in the electrical and electronics industry.

Output also fell from the previous month in the food industry (0.9%), in the metal industry (0.7%) and in the forest industry by (0.4%).

Output was higher only in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply than in April (3.6%).
