Energy imports value grows by 93% in Q1

Diverse energy products were imported to Finland to the value of EUR 4.1 billion in January to March 2022, which was 93 per cent more than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

Most energy products were imported from Russia, whose share of the value of imports was 47 per cent. The value of exports of energy products increased by 64 per cent from the previous year.

Among energy products, the biggest were imports of crude oil, which was imported to the value of EUR 1.7 billion.

The value of natural gas imports grew by 59 per cent in the first quarter of 2022, even though the volume fell by 67 per cent compared to the previous year.

The value of imports of hard coal grew by 83 per cent while the volume fell by 7.5 per cent.

The value of imports of crude oil grew by 91 per cent in the first quarter of 2022, even though the volume rose by only 2.8 per cent.

The value of electricity imports doubled in the first quarter of 2022, even though only 1.4 per cent more electricity was imported measured by volume.

The value of energy exports amounted to EUR 1.7 billion, which was 64 per cent more than one year previously. Motor gasoline (EUR 578.8 million) and medium distillates (EUR 481.7 million) were exported most.
