Heavy snowfall is likely to delay flight operations at Helsinki Airport on Thursday, said Finavia, the company operates country’s airports on Wednesday, quoting weather forecast.

The weather conditions may cause delays to airport operations and to both incoming and outgoing flights at Helsinki Airport.

Also, challenging weather conditions in other parts of Europe may also affect the flight schedules of airlines.

Finavia, in collaboration with other airport operators, is preparing to keep Helsinki Airport operational despite the challenging weather conditions.

However, delays may still occur if the capacity of runways is reduced due to weather conditions such as heavy snowfall and wind or poor visibility.

Snow fall is also expected at other airports in Northern Europe, so incoming flights may be delayed, which will also affect the schedules of outgoing flights from Helsinki Airport.

The authorities advised the passengers to prepare for schedule changes and to follow the instructions and information provided by their airline. Airlines are also responsible for inquiries regarding luggage.

Finavia is responsible for preventing runway and apron slipperiness, airlines for de-icing and engine thawing of aircraft, and air traffic control for possible runway restrictions for incoming and outgoing air traffic.
