Finnish, US vessels offer free tours for people in Helsinki

People will get an opportunity to take free tours on United States Coast Guard Barque Eagle and the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard vessel Turva from Helsinki, said Finnish Border Guard in a press release on Wednesday.

The Barque Eagle will remain open for the people on Thursday (from 12:00 to 16:00), Friday (schedule will be announced later on Thursday) and on Saturday (from 10:00 to 19:00) while the Turva will remain open on Saturday (from 10:00 to 19:00).

United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) sailing vessel Eagle is visiting Helsinki from Thursday to Sunday hosted by the Finnish Border Guard. Practical arrangements of the visit will be organized by the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard District (FCG).

The visit is part of the cooperation between the Finnish Border Guard and the United States Coast Guard and contributes to the organizations' common goals of improving maritime security.

The USCG Cutter Eagle is a three-masted sailing vessel, at 90 meters (295 feet) in length. The ship services as a training vessel for the USCG Academy cadets and officer candidates.

The people has an opportunity to visit both USCGC Eagle and the outer decks FCGV Turva in Katajanokka Quay, Helsinki (Katajanokanlaituri 2), which is located directly next to SkyWheel Helsinki.

Visitors will go through a security check upon boarding the vessels and they must be prepared to prove their identity. To speed up the security check, it is advisable to not take large bags or backpacks, among other large items, onboard. There is no storage for belongings during the Open Ship.

People will be not allowed to take photograph in Turva.
