More than one in ten working women experienced violence or threat of violence at work places in the last one year, according to a survey report published by the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) on Sunday.
SAK report published on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women said that the situation was worst in the public sector as well as in private sector service jobs.
Kantar TNS Oy conducted the survey by interviewing 1202 SAK members from February to March this year, said a SAK press release.
The number of violence or threat faced by the women was two times higher compared to the number of violence and threat faced by their male colleagues.
The women work in the industrial and transport sectors, however, reported fewer such incidents of violence and threat at work place.
"Most of the incident of violence comes from the clients. SAK women who faced violence included practical nurses, sales personnel and waiters," SAK lawyer Paula Ilveskivi said.
"Other research defends the results of our survey, which shows that women face more violence than men in their working life, while men encounter more violence during their leisure time," Ilveskivi said.
Ilveskivi emphasised that the violence against women at works should be stopped by enacting law more specifically in this regard.
