People in Finland have more doubts about their financial situation during retirement compared to the European average, according to J.P. Morgan Asset Management's survey.

Even though few people in Finland have a savings plan for retirement, investing is clearly more common in Finland than on average in Europe, said OP Financial Group in a press release on Wednesday referring to the survey.

Only 8% of people in Finland trust that they will be able to finance the living standard they want during retirement. This is clearly below the European average, which is 16%.

A total of 45% of respondents in Finland report that they are fairly or very uncertain about their ability to maintain the living standard they want during retirement, when the European average is 34%.

"The trust of people in Finland in financial security during retirement is weaker than the European average. This may be because some people are unsure about how the pension payments they make will be transformed into future pension benefits. This, in turn, can undermine confidence in having a good financial situation during retirement," said J.P. Morgan Asset Management's Global Market Strategist Jorn Veeneman.

In the survey, only 17% of people in Finland say that they have a clear savings plan for retirement, according to which they save. This is also below the European average.

"The results indicate a conflict between the expectations and actions of people in Finland. Concern about livelihood during retirement is common, but many people lack tangible plans to increase their wealth for retirement," said Kai Kalajainen, Director of Wealth Management, Client Relationships and Sales of OP Pohjola.

Even though the survey results indicate the lack of a tangible plan, investing (stock and shares) is significantly more common in Finland than on average in Europe. Furthermore, people in Finland believe in the long-term return potential of investing more than Europeans on average.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management commissioned the survey in collaboration with Opinium. The survey's respondents included 17,000 adults aged 18 to 65 across Europe. The countries that participated in the survey were Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, and Finland. The data was collected in the second half of July 2026. Figures presented in the report at the European level are weighted by population. In Finland, a total of 1,000 adults were surveyed.
