Finland censures attack at Berlin Pride parade

Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Sunday expressed condolence over the attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride parade on Saturday, which left one person dead and 16 injured.

“An appalling attack on people who had come together in Berlin to celebrate Christopher Street Day with pride. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Finland stands with Germany, and with all who marched for freedom and love,” the Foreign Minister wrote in a post on her social media platform X.

The attack took place on Saturday evening when a van was driven into a crowd near Berlin's Tiergarten park.

The driver then attacked passersby with a weapon believed to be a machete, leaving one woman dead and many injured.

The suspect was shot dead by police on Sunday evening, local police said in a statement.
