Birth rate remains lower than death in Finland in Jan-Aug period

The number of births was 7,162 lower than that of deaths in Finland in January-August period of this year, according to Statistics Finland.

There were 32,303 births and 39,465 deaths in the first eight months of 2026.

During January-August Finland's population increased by 6,443 persons. The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad.

The number of immigrants was 13,643 higher than that of emigrants. There were 30,213 immigrants and 16,570 emigrants in January-August 2026.

Finland's preliminary population figure was 5,659,324 at the end of August 2026.

The life expectancy of newborn boys reached the 80-year mark for the first time.
