Finland, Ukraine sign drone production deal

President Alexander Stubb and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday signed a drone cooperation deal between Finland and Ukraine, said the President Office in a press release.

They signed the deal in New York during the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The agreement will intensify defense and security cooperation between Finland and Ukraine and strengthen the defense capabilities, industrial cooperation, and technological development of both the countries.

“Today (Wednesday), we signed a drone deal with Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The agreement enables, among other things, the joint production of defence materiel. Defence sector companies in Finland are ready, and the joint effort can now get fully under way,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.

Terming the cooperation as mutually beneficial, he said, “By learning from Ukraine’s experience, we are strengthening our own capabilities.”

Zelenskyy also termed the deal as an important step for protection of people and stronger partnership between Finland and Ukraine.

“And today (Wednesday) we signed a Drone Deal with Alex – an important step for the joint protection of our people and an even stronger partnership between our countries. We are always ready to share what has helped us protect lives with our closest friends. Thank you,” the Ukrainian President wrote in his X.
