Body recovered from Helsinki beach, police probe if he the missing Indian student

The Finnish Coast Guard recovered a body from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta beach in Helsinki on Thursday evening, police said in a press release.

Police are trying to identify whether the deceased was the missing Indian student, who disappeared in May.

Earlier on the day, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) together with Helsinki Police and the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard conducted extensive search in the sea for the missing Indian student.

The NBI is investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the death and to conform the identity of the deceased.

Earlier on July 6, 2026, NBI said that an Indian citizen studying in the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) remained missing since early May this year.

According to the information available to the Police, the student has travelled on the Z train from Lahti to Helsinki on 5 May at around 17:00.

The last confirmed sighting of him was made in a K-Market located in Kruunuvuorenranta, Helsinki, at around 20:00 on the same evening.
