President, PM join Munich Security Conference

President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin are attending the international Munich Security Conference in Germany on Friday and Saturday, said the President Office and the government in separate press releases issued on Friday.

Niinistö will participate in a panel discussion on security and partnerships in Europe on the main stage of the conference on Saturday together with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, President of Moldova Maia Sandu and Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen.

On Saturday evening, President Niinistö will deliver the acceptance speech at the Ewald von Kleist Award ceremony.

This year, the Munich Security Conference has awarded the prestigious prize to Finland and Sweden for their decision to apply for NATO membership.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson and former Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson will also attend the event.

During the conference, Niinistö’s programme also includes a number of important bilateral meetings.

The Prime Minister will attend the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

The agenda includes several high-level discussions and meetings with the world’s political leaders.

Together with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Marin will attend a panel discussion on Europe’s geopolitical position in the world.

The Premier will also have several high-level meetings during the day. The agenda includes a trilateral meeting with the US Vice President Kamala Harris and Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen and Minister of Defence Mikko Savola will also attend the Security Conference.

Organised since 1963, the Munich Security Conference is a discussion forum that seeks to promote conflict resolution, international cooperation and dialogue. The conference brings together foreign and security policy decision-makers from around the world, including some 45 heads of state and government and nearly 100 ministers.
