A man was killed after a police officer used a remote stun gun on him on August 14 in Espoo, Western Uusimaa Police said in a press release on Tuesday.

Police said that the man behaved aggressively and violently towards the people even after arrival of police, which prompted the on-duty officer to deploy the conducted electrical weapon.

The man sustained wounds critically and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to the injuries later.

Police, however, did not divulge details about the incident and the identity of the deceased.

The Police Crimes Unit of the National Prosecution Authority is reviewing the incident to determine whether the authority to launch a preliminary investigation into the police action in the situation.

When the stun gun is used, it fires two shoots attached to wires that carry 50,000 volts electricity meant to temporarily incapacitate the targets.
