Birth rate remains low at end of November

The number of births was 7,410 lower than that of deaths in the country at the end of November, according to the Statistics Finland.

In January-November, 42,776 children were born, which is 742 higher than in the corresponding period in 2019. The number of deaths was 50,186, which is 998 higher than one year earlier.

According to Statistics Finland, country´s population was 5,535,605 at the end of November. The population, however, increased by 10,313 persons during January-November. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 17,547.

According to the preliminary statistics for November, 28,299 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad in January-November and 10,752 persons emigrated from Finland.

The number of immigrants was 2,344 lower and the number of emigrants 5,182 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In all, 8,632 of the immigrants and 7,121 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
