Rail services across Greater Manchester and northwest England were disrupted on Thursday after a failure of the electricity supply at a railway communications center, National Rail said, reported Xinhua.

In an update issued on Thursday afternoon, National Rail said trains could be canceled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised, with disruption expected to continue until the end of the day.

Sky News reported that the failure had also caused knock-on disruption across a wider part of England as long-distance services linked to the affected region were delayed or canceled.

According to National Rail, several train operators were affected, including: Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales.

National Rail advised passengers to check its real-time journey planner before traveling and allow additional time. It said passengers affected by delays or cancellations might be eligible for compensation or refunds, depending on their operator and ticket conditions.
