One person was killed and five others injured, including a 12-year-old girl, after an individual opened fire on Friday in Trappes, a town in the Yvelines department southwest of Paris, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said at a press conference, reported Xinhua.
Asked about the motive, Nunez denounced the incident as a "terrorist crime," adding that "investigations are ongoing and this is an extremely serious act."
The shooting occurred at around 10:30 a.m. local time (0830 GMT). The assailant fired an automatic weapon from inside the car, French daily Le Figaro reported.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu had confirmed on social media platform X that the suspect had been arrested and placed in police custody.
The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) said it had opened an investigation into the "murder in connection with a terrorist act."
