A civilian was killed and two others, including a police officer and the suspected gunman, were wounded in a shooting in northern Denmark on Friday afternoon, reported Xinhua, quoting police.
The suspected gunman, identified only as a man, was seriously injured and taken to hospital, while the wounded police officer was in stable condition, police said.
Police said they remained heavily deployed to the area and had yet to determine what prompted the shooting.
"We now need to investigate the entire course of events. We therefore do not yet know the precise circumstances, particularly what led to the shooting," North Jutland Police Inspector Claus Dano said in a statement.
According to Danish broadcaster DR, police were initially called to a reported fire at an address in Norresundby, just north of Aalborg. Officers came under fire upon arriving at the scene and returned fire.
The suspected gunman, a police officer and a civilian at the scene were shot.
Police said the shooting had ended, but a large number of officers remained at the scene and were expected to continue working in the area for an extended period. DR reported that firefighters and emergency personnel were also present. The public was urged to stay away.
Police said an investigation was underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The identity of the suspected gunman has not been disclosed, and a possible motive remains unknown.
