A shortage of parts and delivery problems, in particular for semiconductor chips, are still causing problems for the German car industry, with 11% fewer new cars registered in the first half of 2022 when compared to last year, reported dpa.

Just less than 1.24 million new vehicles were registered in the period from January through June, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) said on Tuesday.

Sales of electric cars, which have been rising strongly for years, also seem to have faltered slightly.

During the last six months, 12.5% more battery-powered cars were put on the road compared to the same period last year. But, looking at June, the authority recorded a decline of 3.5% compared to last year.

This is already the second monthly decline this year. New registrations of electric cars were also down in April compared to the same month a year before.
