Following the fatal train accident in Germany that resulted in at least five deaths, including two Ukrainian refugees, the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into three employees on suspicion of negligent manslaughter, reported dpa.

The accused are employees of Deutsche Bahn, a spokeswoman for the office told dpa on Tuesday.

The regional train from the Alpine resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich derailed shortly after departure on Friday afternoon.

Four women - two of them mothers from Ukraine who had fled the Russian war with their children - and a 14-year-old from the region died, and around 40 people were injured. One woman is still in a critical condition.

A train task force is investigating the cause of the accident. The Federal Bureau of Railway Accidents Investigation is also involved.

Rail Operator Deutsche Bahn said it could not comment at the moment because of the ongoing investigations.

"Of course, we are doing everything we can to support the investigating authorities in clarifying the cause of the accident," a railway spokesperson said on Tuesday.
