German institutions such as the Goethe Institute, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations can expect their budgets to increase this year, dpa learned on Friday, reported dpa.

The Goethe Institute, Germany's international cultural flagship, can now expect €235 million ($243.4 million) in 2023 instead of the originally planned €219.9 million. However, €14 million of this is initially tied to structural changes in the institute's work.

In the current 2022 budget, it received €233 million, €17 million less than in the previous year.

For the international exchange of students and academics, the DAAD has earmarked €222 million for the coming year, compared to €193 million last year.

For the foundation named after Alexander von Humboldt, which aims to strengthen Germany as a science location through international research exchange, €56 million is now available in 2023, compared to €53 million this year.
