Record number of people visit Police Museum in summer

The summer season at the Police Museum was exceptionally busy. Throughout the summer, the museum welcomed visitors from across Finland, and in July it achieved the highest monthly visitor count in its history, said an official press release on Thursday.

In July, the Police Museum welcomed 9,912 visitors, the highest number of visitors recorded in a single month in the museum’s history.

Summer is traditionally the busiest season for museums, and visitor numbers at the Police Museum also increase significantly during June, July and August.

In addition to the holiday season, Police Day, held at the end of August, attracts a large number of visitors to the museum every year.

“July’s visitor record came as a very pleasant surprise to us. In addition to visitor numbers, it is important that our guests enjoy their museum experience. The vast majority of the feedback we receive has been positive,” said Police Museum Director Lauri Haavisto.

The Police Museum attracts visitors from all over the country. International visitors also visit the museum every year.

During the summer, many families with children visited the museum, and some families return several times a year. At the same time, temporary exhibitions continue to attract new visitors who are discovering the museum for the first time.

One of the children’s favourite attractions is the Pokela section, which introduces police work from a child’s perspective.

The museum’s summer Sunday opening hours received positive feedback from visitors. The trial allowed the museum to be open on one of the most popular days for museum visits. During the autumn, the Police Museum will evaluate the results and consider whether to continue Sunday opening hours in the future.

Autumn once again brings the museum’s popular drama-guided tours. In addition, extensive collection and expert work continues behind the scenes to support the museum’s exhibitions. The exhibitions remain open to the public throughout the autumn, and during the autumn holiday week visitors will be offered free guided tours.
