A U.S. jury in Oakland, California ruled against Elon Musk on Monday in his lawsuit against artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI, finding that his claims were barred by the statute of limitations, according to U.S. media reports, said Xinhua.

The advisory jury reached a unanimous verdict, and U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers accepted the verdict, the reports said.

Public records from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California show that the case was filed in 2024. Musk accused OpenAI and its executives, including Sam Altman, of departing from the company's founding mission and prioritizing commercial interests over the public good.

OpenAI and other defendants denied the allegations, arguing that Musk had long been aware of changes to the company's structure and had brought his claims too late.

OpenAI was founded in 2015, with Musk among its co-founders. Musk left the company in 2018. The company has grown rapidly in recent years following the launch of AI products such as ChatGPT and has formed a close partnership with Microsoft.
