Israel strikes central, southern Gaza, kills 2

The Israeli military carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, killing at least two people, according to Israeli sources, reported Xinhua.

The military said in a statement that the strikes, in Khan Younis in southern Gaza and the area of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, targeted two militants from Islamic Jihad and Hamas. Israel's state-owned Army Radio reported that the two were killed.

"Troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat," the military said.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, several Palestinians were injured after an Israeli drone struck a residential apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp. It also reported that three Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire targeting tents sheltering displaced Palestinians west of Khan Younis.

The attacks came as Hamas said on Sunday that its delegation is holding meetings in the Egyptian capital Cairo to ensure Israel's compliance with a roadmap agreed upon with the U.S.-led "Board of Peace."

Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally rejected a U.S.-backed 15-point plan for ending the Gaza conflict, insisting that Israel will not withdraw its forces from the enclave until Hamas is fully disarmed.
