2 killed in shooting at US North Carolina park

At least two people were killed after a planned fight among young people escalated into a shooting at a park in the U.S. state of North Carolina on Monday morning, reported Xinhua, quoting local authorities.

North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation confirmed the deaths on social media, adding that police are currently responding to the shooting.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. local time at Leinbach Park, northwest of downtown Winston-Salem city, police said.

"What we have confirmed at this point (is) that two juveniles agreed to meet at the park to fight," Winston-Salem Police Assistant Chief Jake Swaim said.

"When the individuals met at the park, the situation escalated significantly, leading to multiple people exchanging gunfire," police said, adding that several of the individuals involved, both victims and suspects, have been located and identified.

"This is an isolated incident and remains under active investigation," officials said.
