The Yamaha rider prevailed ahead of Johann Zarco and Jack Miller for his third win of the season in front of 95,000 fans. His standings lead is now 34 points over Aleix Espargaro, reported dpa.

There was disappointment for the German spectators though with Stefan Bradl, standing in for the injured Marc Marquez, finishing last on his Honda.

Augusto Fernandez won the Moto2 race with Germany's Marcel Schrötter fourth.

"I would have liked to give the many fans a reason to celebrate even more," he said after just missing the podium.

Over the three sun-kissed days, a total 232,202 spectators attended the track, which is a new record following the coronavirus-related cancellation in 2020 and behind closed door racing last year.

"Everything went peacefully and smoothly," said Lars Soutschka, the board member responsible for sales, communications and motorsport at event organizer ADAC.
