FC Barcelona on Tuesday confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder Ferran Torres from Manchester City for a reported fee of around 55 million euros plus incentives, reported Xinhua.
The Spain international, who had only been in Manchester for 18 months since joining from Valencia, has agreed to a contract until 2027, with a release clause set at one billion euros. He became the club's second signing for the January transfer window after Dani Alves, who has already been training with the club for several weeks.
Torres currently has an ankle injury he picked up in the UEFA Nations League final against France in early October and will be officially presented at the Camp Nou Stadium on January 3.
The player can play on either the right of midfield or in an advanced role as a 'false striker' and is thought to be an express petition of Barca coach Xavi Hernandez, who is anxious to boost an attack that lost both Antoine Griezmann and Leo Messi during the summer.
However, before Torres and Alves are able to play, Barca will have to either sell or loan some first team players in order to allow them to fit under the tight wage ceiling imposed by La Liga.
