The police in a raid on Tuesday recovered a large cache of firearms from a private house in Vantaa.

The Eastern Uusimaa zone police said the arms included rapid-fire assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, and sub-machine guns and ammunition, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

The house belongs to a middle-aged man and the police action was prompted by a suspicion of illegal hoard of drugs, police sources said.

In total, 35 firearms, mostly unauthorised or unlicensed, were recovered from the house in the police operation.

The police are considering filing a case for aggravated gun offences in this regard.
